Ah well, Resort. My favourite season, I will have to admit. I love how it’s so much calmer and more about the designs themselves than the two main seasons. And I have always liked the idea of a collection between winter and spring, transcending from the cold into warmer weather, collections containing coats as well as bathing suits.
This time, there clearly was one thing I couldn’t help noticing about all of the collections I’ve seen this time: the classic pant suit continues to stage its comeback that it has started a few seasons ago.
For Resort 2014, I noticed a tendency towards sophisticated tailoring that we already know from the Fall 2013 collections. Designs are clean and classic with a nod to masculinity, the colour range being dominated by different hues of blue, from pastel baby blue shades to cobalt and navy and even denim. Of course there was classic black as well as white, but also a lot of jewel colours and my all time favourite – metallic. How I would love to own a metallic pant suit!
Trouser lengths were varying, we could see everything from floor sweeping lengths to shorts. The jackets were mainly loose, yet still structured and streamlined, but there were also mid-20th century shapes (notably at Christian Dior), waisted jackets that contrasted greatly with loose, menswear inspired slacks.
I love this play with masculinity and sincerely hope you enjoy the designs I have selected for you!
