What New York offered us on our first morning wasn’t exactly what I call a warm welcome – it was raining cats and dogs, not my favourite kind of weather to discover knew cities. Nonetheless we headed out to wander around (after a quick visit to Lincoln Center for the Mathieu Mirano presentation), taking in the spirit of the city, until we suddenly stood in front of the Museum of Modern Art – much to my delight and not only because of the rain but also because (surprise, surprise – just like almost everybody else) I love art. But honestly there’s nothing more inspiring to me than the work of a great artist.
As it turned out, a visit to MoMA can take up a whole day, even though we only saw half of what we wanted to see, and in the end we just fell into our hotel bed after a fabulous Italian dinner. We liked the idea of a eating around the world theme for our whole trip, but as it turned out later, we only had Greek, Chinese, more Italian, a wonderful vegan Valentine’s dinner, lots of french fries for snacks and even more Starbucks coffee. But eating and walking around, stumbling upon sights and museums wasn’t all we did – we also got really touristy further along our trip – we went on a ferry to go see the Statue of Liberty, walked around Wall Street, visited Ground Zero and discovered the 9/11 memorial pools, saw Mary Poppins on Broadway, pulled stupid faces at the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, took pictures of Times Square at night, strolled around Central Park and walked down Madison Avenue, so be prepared for lots and lots of pictures (and a few sunny spells too).
Let me tell you these were only the first three days of our trip, so check back soon for more impressions and of course I will be showing you what I wore, too!
